encouragement wanting to encourage somebody things like that should go great Lord willing I'll give it my all do what I can anyway let's just pray quick gracious heavenly father thank you for this time thank you for the platform that you've helped us create Lord I ask that you be with us as we do this Live help me to speak the way you want me to help it to be an edifying thing ask all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ amen all right so welcome welcome guys how to encourage people is the subject seems like a strange thing but anyway the way that I usually start any thought is by looking up the definition of the words so let's do that what's up Hanah kiner you're welcome to live so encouraging people what's up Joel what is the definition of encouraged says give support confidence or hope to someone what's up coffee machine uh give support and advice to so that they will do or continue to do something help our stimulate an activity our state or view to develop Webster's definition is to inspire with gsub Rachel kiner um the meaning of encourag and Webster is to inspire with courage Spirit or hope um to inspire with courage just to help someone keep on going what's up James how's it going how do I encourage people so it depends if you guys want to put in the comments um if you want to describe times that you were needing encouragement or the types of things people need encouragement for so you got different kinds of encouragement remember there was one time I had to preach on a Wednesday and I was uh I used to go to the sometimes I go to the church and I'll study for the sermon at the church and then that way I'm there and I'm just you know more centered and I can set up all the electronics and things like that what's up Benjamin what's welcome to the live so I was feeling very discouraged though I I can get like that before I preach all preachers do really but we don't all feel incredible before we preach that's not how that works and so uh so I was praying and I was like God what do what do what do you want me to do Lord so I felt L to go on my YouTube feed and um I saw a sermon by brother Ron Spencer and so I clicked on that and I skipped to a random spot in the sermon and in that sermon brother Ron Spencer said and David encouraged himself in the Lord thought that was pretty cool and that really that really helped it's 1st Samuel 30 is where that happens if you guys have any questions about how to encourage people or stuff people need encouragement with or any statements please please ask questions that keeps the AL going that's what keeps this going is the questions the comments and the concerns and things like that bible talks about in 1st Samuel 30:4 then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power to weep because the Philistines had taken all of their uh the amalekites had invaded the South and they had taken all the women captive that were therein they didn't kill anybody but they carried them away and went on their way and says that literally everyone was crying so hard that they had no power to weep even and David's two wives were taken captive hinam the jezus and Abigail the wife of nabal the camelite and verse 6 says and David was greatly distressed for the people spake of stoning him because the soul of all the people were grieved every man for his sons and his daughters but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God so you got to encourage yourself sometimes people maybe will not encourage you but when it comes to encouraging others it depends on what you're encouraging them about maybe let's see what are some things people need encourage me about guys please put them in the uh put them in the comments that'll help me out one of the things could be a breakup you could be in a great relationship and we get all great we as kids get a lot of uh advice from a lot of people about how to do things and it's easy to uh hear it and then just um not do it but it's hard to hear a piece of advice and then try to live it it's easier just to do it our own little way and then what's up brother Kevin welcome to the live talking about how to encourage people things like that what's up Ethan please ask questions keep alive going put some topics in of encouragement but maybe you got went through your breakup and hear all this random uh random advice from a lot of people a lot of it is so cliche like work on yourself get around people don't be alone Alone by yourself all these different things that you've already heard from a thousand people my advice on that when you want when you need encouragement on that is uh when someone's going through breakup just encourage them and don't tell don't tell them I Told You So if you told them to take their time and they didn't and then they lost their relationship because of that it doesn't actually help to say hey I told you so they're already hurting a lot especially if a guy got dumped or a girl got dumped or whatever and they already know that your advice is true and you can tell them at a later point but if you just go on there say I told you so I told you why didn't you listen to me then that's just the dumbest way you could possibly encourage someone it won't actually help and what it does is it makes the person being encouraged have to be the adult in the room once had someone do that to me what I had to do was I had to be the uh better example for the other person I had to stop grieving my uh my loss of the uh of the girl and then go on with my life and be the bigger person the better person for the other person that just wasn't very wise in the way they approached it what's up li what's up sister Joy welcome to live so encouragement it's inspiring it's courage and I think you I think you should identify what someone's courage points are what they what they need maybe they'll need a comedy maybe they need to be taken out to uh Walgreens people like Walgreens apparently maybe they need uh what's up Sister Mariah welcome to life maybe they need to play some basketball it depends on what it is it just depends but a great way to encourage someone is to listen and to not fix their problem for them it's easy to uh hear what someone's saying and tell them about and then tell them about a similar time when you went through something similar then go on and on and on and on about yourself it doesn't actually help I wish it did because I'm pretty good about at talking about myself everybody is but it doesn't help listening a whole lot I'd say also identifying their sense of humor and teasing them a little bit about it depending on the sense of humor and active listening so you're as actively asking them to clarify details and asking them about it and not and not asking them something negative like oh you did this why didn't you just do this even if it's obvious that does not help they already know the problem with people not doing things has nothing to do with the lack of advice or counsel it's the lack of discipline to actually get it done and start doing it that's the problem there so Mone free resources for going to the gym people don't go or play sports or do inter faster anything because they just don't do it there's no action threshold there's no uh discipline to continue people already know everything so if you're wanting to encourage someone don't tell them really obvious things and but sometimes there's the other out of that when you need to tell them you need to tell them hey I told you not to do this like if they uh steal from a store and they end up in jail I'd say say that's the time and it depends on who you are too if you're the father of course I told you David you should have done this differently it's correct and listening to someone also asking questions so listening would be number one for encouragement number two I'd say is asking questions and not dumb questions but leading questions like okay so you broke up what what do you think went wrong so instead of saying I Told You So instead you can say what do you remember what my advice to you was you said to take your time well could you tell me about how you did that in your relationship I didn't do that that's better it helps it's effective you can be really right all the time and you can be I'm right all the time and you won't be effective with anybody got to encourage so listening is a big key also identifying someone's style some people need you to just listen to them and let them lay out everything that they're thinking of especially girls they don't want you to just fix the problem they want you to listen and listen and listen and listen until they lay everything out and then when they're done they'll tell you when they're done and then I would say still ask them questions um there we go just have M Learn for the comic relief here what's up Dan more food is a source of encouragement like this Hino cheddar sourdough bread that my wife made this is why I'm fat you're not fat you just you got you know a wide frame like me prud is also a source of encouragement that that is a really good one I mean if I went if I if I had just gone through a broke up a breakup and someone would were to bring me let's say like uh some chocolate chip cookies freshly made with some ice cream on the side I might feel a lot less less sad what's up Levi what's up ni hello encouraging people guys Levi be interesting to hear your uh thoughts on this encouragement how to encourage people and You' also Levi's a pastor son he knows this you it's hard to encourage people when they just uh want to do the dumbest thing possible and they don't want to listen to you at all you can't quite encourage them in their in that behavior but i' I'd say when you're wanting to encourage someone you need to figure out what you want to do cuz if you're just going to encourage them as like a key to open a door of your uh of your advice to them or your critiques of them it's not really encouragement jiah mcarn says comfort food is a real thing hard to be sad with an ice cream in your hand is true Levi post says not to change encouragement is a good thing it's a valuable thing I think we should do it I think we should encourage each other it doesn't it doesn't actually as I I do bring it up on the podcast and I do try to talk about it because it does have its place but only let's say a criticism or talking about something negative only talking about something negative doesn't actually help anybody it doesn't accomplish anything to only maybe I know people that I know a friend of mine that actually uh all they ever do is post negative things all they ever do is uh he's talking about negative things and how everyone else is doing everything wrong everyone else should be doing everything better but that's all they ever do I also know others that all they ever do is encourage people let's see Levi post says ain't no way we just had a sermon on talking positive there we go boys yes sir that's awesome so talking positive I guess that'd be a different way of apprach approaching it is talking positive let me type that up here what's up brother Trevor how's it going we're talking about encouraging people Levi post says and now you're talking about it as soon as I get out well Levi there we go like brother Trevor when I asked my byc a couple years ago I asked him brother Trevor I feel like I'm not dedicated enough to God and instead of you know instead of uh just telling me oh of course you are dedicated David that's the easy way that's that's what a lot of people do instead of doing that he had a very awesome and very effective way of encouraging he said okay and really one of the ways you can encourage like brother Trevor is is to rationalize the insecurity with the person brother Trevor says good I'm positive I just miss the sermon I'm being positive great glad to see your being very positive brother Trevor but one way is is to ask them questions to remove the foundation of their baseless insecurity is to show them how it isn't it doesn't actually line up like brother Trevor asked me okay you don't feel dedicated okay so how how how much time do you think you'd have to spend on uh listening to tapes and reading a Bible in order for you to be to feel not like you're dedicated enough I was like what do you mean he said well let's say you listen to tapes 5 hours a day and read your Bible for five hours a day and prayed with the rest of the time would you then feel like you were dedicated enough and I said what's up G and I said no I said oh what about 3 hours what about 2 hours and then he said so what you tell me is it's not about that and then he told me David what's up Grant welcome to live so then um brother Trevor said David do you think I uh baseless insecurity hm well brother Trevor and they say David you think I I uh have a checklist on in my room telling me uh I have to tell my wife I love her I have to do this I have to do that then she'll know that I love her I said no he said why I said because you you have a relationship with her he said yes you have a relationship with God said this not about religion it's about a relationship with God what's up Sierra welcome to the live tell your boyfriend I said hi um but it's about a relationship with God not religion and so he showed me my reason the reasoning for my for my uh NE for my discouragement and then I was like oh this doesn't actually make sense because that's what would be effective with me other people's just listening to them maybe it's taking them for ice cream whatever else it would be um oh yeah here's another thought I wanted to throughout there I might put up on my story one of these times anyone ever tells you these lives I've never anything good one of my friends in my friends I one of my friends of mine that watched not really the lives but he watched all of the stories I put on Instagram because they also get shared to Facebook one day he uh messaged me asking for my help and I talked him out of killing himself and I had him come over to my room to encourage him and the only way I knew about that was because I consistently posted my thoughts on Facebook on the on the stories so there you go one of many stories by God's grace but what I did is I he identified that he had been planning for a month to kill himself and so I asked him why he really didn't have a great reason why I mean I know his parents were not in the best spot is he didn't really have the best job and stuff like that so when he got to my house or before he got to my house I said well so and so we'll just call him John well John uh you're going to come to my house okay and you're not going to do this you're not going to kill yourself he didn't by God's grace cuz he had planned it for a month and a friend of his asked him to do something with them and he didn't but he told me about it and he was crying you know 30-year-old guy crying to me on the phone I haven't seen him in over 10 years so by God's grace I had actually dealt with that before it was my first time dealing with suicide from other people so I asked him about it and then I said hey why won why don't he said I'm just going to take off for work I I can't keep doing this I got too much suicide thoughts so I said hey come over to the house he's like well it's like 12:00 at night I'm like or I think it was 10:30 at night I was like No it's it's not too late come on man and so we I had him come over I asked said what kind of pizza do you like he's like I love pizza well do you like Pizza Hut he said that's my favorite kind of pizza so we got some Pizza Hut and some Cinnabon treats and some milk and we uh watched a very wholesome anime it was like PG it was a very nice thing and when I was talking to him and I was just listening to go him go on and on and we identified what is sense of humor was and then uh I think it was NASA the valy of the wind it's a it's a uh it's a wholesome movie it's really nice it's from like the 80s or something he's like well if we watch naso The Valley Of The Wind I definitely won't kill myself see that was his humor he used tumor to cope and so I was like oh well yeah sure man you know is it is it clean is it good it's like oh it's PG I'm okay cool it's from the 80s and so uh very wholesome movie it's very nice and so uh you know but we're also talking listening to him I he was really out of it in his mind and I told him that my birthday was a few weeks earlier and he said oh your birthday is a few weeks ago I'm sorry man I was like well if you weren't trying to kill yourself you would have known that so Johnny and uh and he laughed identified a sense of humor by God's grace and so might look that on the look at that on the surface and say you're teasing a suicide like no you're not identifying what makes them tick uh Josiah says yes see food is a comfort yes it is Josiah Christian B says amen and James cabon says anything Miyazaki makes as a masterpie yeah very clean very good I I liked it and then like halfway through my dad came in and he had a little box filled with ice cream cones and uh he said okay David John time for your ice cream and then we had you just grabb that and the kid was crying watching the watching the wholesome movie and eating ice cream and what is it though encouragement it's listening it's asking the right questions Simon Clint says once again food yeah I bought like literally I think I bought like four packages of the Cinnabon Delight things because I was really hungry and I knew that he was too we ended up eating all of them it was it was amazing man it was they're like mini Cinnabon rolls at Pizza Hut and it was delicious it was it was really good it was awesome and also encouragement comes from uh being able to encourage other people especially for people that are called to preach and stuff like that cuz after it was after Wednesday service when he had called me or when he texted me saying he was really sad and he was crying and I was like well I haven't seen you in over 10 years but here's my number I didn't tell him the 10 years part but he uh I felt as if at the time I wasn't feeling very good and it's just like well Lord are you going to use me am I being used for what you want and then that happened so some sometimes for some people being able to encourage others is the greatest source of encouragement it can be let's see J mlin says hunting is the greatest source of encouragement that's exactly right jiah one of the greatest sources of encouragement for some people is hunting um and jiah says actually hunting while you're eating pizza is okay or fire or whatever that sounds amazing that sounds amazing Josiah hunting while you're eating pizza that sounds delicious sounds awesome encouraging others I think it's a very valuable thing very valuable so listening to others and also another way to let's see Jameson says agreed sometimes doing something good for someone helps me get out of my head jiah McLaren says sorry I'm being stupid no you're fine jiah it's all good let say another way to encourage someone is when they lash out I have a friend of mine and he uh relentlessly was just really doing dumb things relentlessly and would not stop and when we are taught that we're supposed to encourage those that despitefully go against us so when someone says something about us or they try to destroy us behind our backs the best thing we can do is pray for them and encourage them say something really nice about them when they don't deserve it the most and that that is that I believe that's the character of Christ I make a ton of mistakes but I I I want to do my best to do the thing that my flesh doesn't want me to do it in moments where it's really difficult ji McLaren says sorry I'm being stupid Kevin weeks says Josiah McLaren you're really good at it hey you guys go to the same church you got to be careful he'll uh he'll unplug your guitar or something and just keep it going in your headphones to make you think you're really doing good and where where you need encouragement for instance let's see depression someone feels like they can't go on or they feel like life is useless or they you know let's just Google the stupid word uh Depression definition see what the world says this definition is it is oh they're trying to diagnose me for depression now that I Googled it great getting a bunch of emails saying are you depressed just the best depression being let's say it's a common mental disorder involves depressed mood or loss of pleasure or interest in activities for long periods of time let say there's different types of depression but one of them is when i' say you're about to do something very valuable forg God and say just sends everything he can to to discourage you and I think that what we can do in those times is to ask ourselves how much of the tapes are listening to how much of the Bible are we reading how much we're really praying and then go from there another way is talking positive it's another really good one people get mad at me because of how much I tell them hey stop focusing on the negative focus on the positive and I don't do that because I don't because I don't recognize the negative I do um Simon Clint says Democrats are depressed yeah well maybe they should V for Trump to feel better oh man that's funny but talking positive is a very great way of doing things uh let's see Kevin week says just m haha actually Pizza is a great cover scent when you're hunting that big buck Maybe maybe I I I don't know I don't really know much about hunting who knows but saying things positively is a great thing because your mind and your body and everything will already recognize the negative of any situation it's easy to talk about only the negative or to go on and on about it and that's normal to go on and on about it but I think also like the song you know uh set your wings to The Winds of Faith um let me pull up the lyrics actually so I don't get this wrong okay the lyrics are set your wings to The Winds of Faith you can fly in a higher Place do not struggle it's by Grace set your wings to The Winds of Faith you know there's two roads you may take one by sight and one by faith take the word of God or what you see because what you believe is what will be I mean I believe that uh what I think that's talking about in my opinion is such a conclusion to the word of God what's up Ethan Watkins welcome to life it's easy to talk about the negative of any situation in this naturalness and it's normal but I believe that if you can't at the end of your rant at the end of your venting if you can't say but yes everything's falling apart yes I have this problem yes I have that problem yes this is the terrible thing but I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me my faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ if you can't if you truly resist if someone tries to say hey well don't you trust in God don't tell me I need to trust in God you got to watch it because if if someone quotes the scripture to you you're like don't you dare quote a scripture to me maybe you can consider that it is in the right Spirit yes it's normal to be discouraged and it's normal to be what's my favorite verse my favorite verse in the Bible I have many for different reasons but my most favorite is in Matthew chapter 26 I'm not sure which verse it's where Jesus Is In The Garden of Gethsemane and he knows that Judas is about to betray him Judas walks up to him kisses him says hail master and Jesus looks him and says and Jesus said to him friend wherefore art thou come so Jesus looks at let let's Google that it it means this Matthew 26:50 yeah someone had a random meaning for it but Jesus looks literally into the eyes of Satan incarnate and says friend where far Thou come Jesus is in the had the had the most rights of anyone to go on and on about his negative situation and he looks in the eyes of the man that's betraying what's Manuel he looks in the eyes of the man that's betraying him and he says friend wherefore come what are you doing here friend calls him friend there's another man I know I don't know if you guys have heard of him um outside of my father I respect him the most on this planet um uh M says my overe exuberant what's up B um my overe exuberant confidence is encouraging to others like if someone that stupid is that confident I'm going to be okay yeah I I guess just side that's that's really depressing but okay what's up Elijah how's it going so Brother David Morse is the man that I respect Mo most on the on this planet other than my father Brother David moris what's up Natalie PR welcome to live so my co Brother David Morris he's the man I respect the most outside of my father and and we went and saw him when we picked up a puppy for Ruth uh a couple months ago a little more than a couple months ago and we uh got to stop and see Brother David Morris at a hospital uh he needs uh prayer he's going through uh chemotherapy when we went and saw him in the hospital he was his arms his legs were underneath the blanket he was like wrapped in it he couldn't move his arms or anything he just had his head there sister Vanessa there was helping him and I could I can't tell you all of the things and all the reasons why he he's he's going through chemotherapy the worst pain is probably ever F in his entire life he can't move his arms he can't move his legs he's got to stay still when he seeing uh my dad and I who we haven't seen him for since I was like 15 so like8 years almost about around eight years I haven't seen him couldn't shake her hand or anything and people know behind the scenes of their situation but let's just say he he has more right than anyone I know of to speak negatively about people and his own situation and you know what he did the entire time we were talking to him he had nothing but positive things to say about everything and everyone speaking negatively about your situation consistently without giving the caveat or the ending of scripture from the word of God is not something that can be led by God you can't actually go on and on on and on and on and on about your negative situation without quoting the word of God and Beed of God by the David Morris he had every he has every right to Trash Talk others and to talk about his situation and he's literally going through chemotherapy and all these different things he didn't say anything negative the entire conversation we dad was talking to him encouraging him and it was great such such an honor to see him encouragement guys that's the whole point of it encourage others and one way you can encourage others is stop talking negative about people behind their back that's one way if you wouldn't say something about someone else to their face what you're saying don't say it it doesn't help anyone you know there are many preachers that won't come on this live because this live has been misappropriated and lied about so much behind the scenes behind my back so much people have said oh it's nothing but relationship talk and oh it's just it's just goofy and jokes couldn't be further from the truth there's many preachers that won't come on because of that so uh encourage others one way you can really encourage others is to have your life all the way set up make your bed clean your room organize it all have a positive attitude no matter what no matter what happens retain a a positive attitude when I was working for AT&T and I was selling phones the uh and systems and so in uh Wireless things and stuff like that half my job was dealing with the old computer system that just didn't work and what I did by God's grace is no matter what happened I always retained a positive attitude and that kept a lot of people in the store we were able to sell a lot by God's grace also probably talked I don't know 7 R people out of suicide somewhere around there by God's grace but stay positive what's up sister welcome to live but you have a choice guys you have a choice whether you will stay positive or you will continue to be negative it is very hard to build all of the structures at Legoland in California all the different Legos and the the ones that are made literally the size of cars and everything else you know how much work it would take to just crumble them all and make it all look terrible almost none my uh pastor preached this morning beware the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees and he said A little leaven of course like the Bible says a little Le lenth the whole lump so if someone's encouraging or if you're going through through a situation one little thought of evil leavens the whole situation and I also say one little thought of encouragement changes the whole situation as well
